What is your Cub Scout doing during April vacation? For the first time ever, the Knox Trail Council will offer a STEM Academy for our Cub Scouts.
Tuesday, April 22 – Friday, April 25
9am to 4pm – extended morning and evening available for an additional fee
Nobscot Scout Reservation, Sudbury, Massachusetts
$195 per Cub Scout includes lunch daily, all program materials and a commemorative t-shirt and patch. Registration is limited to 75 Cub Scouts.

The STEM Academy will encourage the natural curiosity of Cub Scouts and their sense of wonder. A Scout will leave the academy with a start on the NOVA Award, pins, belt loops and achievements toward his next rank as well as skills and memories to last a lifetime. All activities are designed to be hands-on and interactive to ensure that Cub Scouts are provided opportunities to actively participate.

This year we will host the ceremonial “Order of the Arrow” Native American Dancers to honor our Webelos scouts as they Crossover (to Boy Scouts). The dancers are really something to see, and there will even be some audience participation.
Congratulations to Jack Verri, Tristan Niedzielski, Ryan Tran and James Martinez who will be representing Pack 24 at the district wide race which right now is scheduled for Sat, the 5th of April. Please hold on to your cars and let the pack know if you cannot attend.
Also, congratulations to all the racers this year, there were a number of great car designs and much fun was had by all.

The Wolf Den will be visiting the Marlbrough courthouse on Lake Williams on Thursday. Please meet us at the lobby at 3:15pm to start the tour.
Gather your tools and get your kits ready! It’s time for the Pack 24 Pinewood Derby. This year the derby will be held on January 10th and 11th.
A few items of note:
- Please be prompt on registration night. We only have 14 potential cars to register, but want to make sure everyone has time to make adjustments/repairs in the event of any complications
- Car numbers are assigned as per the attached .pdf but there is no need to label your car prior to registration night. We’ll have stickers to attached to the cars at registration
- Post registration, the cars will be spending the night at Meehan hall, not to be accessed again by their owners until after the race on Saturday
- Our race is first on Saturday morning and there will be a few hours between the Pack 24 race and the City Wide championship. Therefore, plan accordingly so you can attend the championship race in the event your scout is in the top 4 within the pack
Don’t forget, assuming the District race is run the same as it has been in the past, the same 4 racers that advance to the city wide championship will also be invited to the District race that will be happening later this spring!

At our December pack meeting, we will be having a special guest from Animal Adventures. Our guest will be bringing a variety of exotic animals for the scouts to see and possibly interact with.
I wanted to make you all aware of Pack 24’s plans for an outing on Sunday, November 17th at the Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge (http://www.fws.gov/refuge/Assabet_River/about.html)
The refuge, formerly part of Fort Devens, encompasses 3.5 square miles located within the towns of Hudson, Maynard, Stow and Sudbury, has a large wetland complex, several smaller wetlands, vernal pools, and large forested areas with a variety of well-marked trails for hiking and biking. Equally as interesting are several abandoned bunkers which were used to store munitions and other military supplies prior to and during World War II.
On Sunday the 17th @ 11AM, one of the rangers will be on hand to not only give a brief presentation on the refuge and its conservation activities, but also to open up one of the bunkers to the public.
This is a rare opportunity to learn about wildlife conservation and take a real live peek into history! This is also unique opportunity for scouts of all levels to complete portions of several achievements as the refuge and our activities will cover a number of subjects such as wildlife conservation, hiking, leave no trace, historical sites etc … Den leaders, please be sure to look through your respective handbooks and advise your scouts of these opportunities.
The plan is for us to meet at 10:30 AM at the *Winterberry Way Visitor Center, receive a brief talk about the refuge and the activities of the conservation officers, then head out to the trails and see inside the bunker.
Knox Trail Council will be hosting a Taste of Scouting event for Tigers, Cubs, Webelos, Parents and Siblings on October 19th & 20th, 2013.
Scouting is “Outing” so join us at Camp Resolute for some exciting outdoor activities, the opportunity to earn Cub Scout Belt Loops and camping! Fun for the whole family!
